Earth Hour 2007 was a Sydney event. Earth Hour 2008 was a global movement.

Australia led the way in promoting climate change action on Saturday night, with 58% of Australian households participating in Earth Hour 2008 and all Australian capital cities taking part.

Earth Hour was conceived by the Australian WWF and was launched in Sydney on 31 March 2007. This year saw the event go global with 26 international icon cities taking part including San Francisco, Seoul and Copenhagen. In Israel, a Green concert was held, where all power was generated by renewable and alternative sources, including cyclists! Now that’s man power!

Renewable energy is the hot topic of the 21st century and most people now realise that in order to make a difference to the overall global warming issue everyone must make a contribution to reducing their carbon footprint. A great way to reduce your carbon footprint that won't cost much and won't affect your lifestyle is to switch to a renewable energy plan which will ensure your electricty and gas suppliers supply your energy needs from renewable sources. Renewable sources of green electricity include solar electricity and wind electricity.

Maybe the electricity won't be as cheap as with a normal plan, but the more households that start insisting that their electricity suppliers supply their energy from renewable sources, the more the electricity suppliers will invest in new energy technology such as wind power and solar power. This is the only way in Australia that we can begin to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and black coal power of which we have one of the highest levels of generation from these sources in the world.

You can search for a great renewable energy plan on www.ShopAround.com.au and switch to an accreditated green energy plan directly on the www.ShopAround.com.au site.
