Melbourne fuel supply rises to $1.69 per litre
David Cumming of the RACV has today told ABC News that petrol prices in Melbourne have hit $1.69 per litre.
Mr Cumming stated that the price of petrol had increased 1 cent per litre over the last fortnight and that he did not see an end to the volatile pricing.
Melbourne householders and commuters will be hard-hit by this latest rise to petrol prices putting further pressure on household budgets already stretched by rising interest rates and price rises in other essential services such as electricity prices and gas supply.
But consumers can save money on their living costs by searching for better prices. More price comparison services are becoming available online all the time. The federal Government is planning to introduce fuel watch which gives motorists the opportunity to search online for the cheapest petrol price in their area. The service has been running successfully in Western Australia for some years.
David Power of ShopAround.com.au says that “In this environment of rising prices Victorian consumers are going to have pay even more attention to their household budgets and be creative about how they can save money. ShopAround.com.au wants to help consumers by taking the hassle out of shopping around for the best electricity and gas suppliers and price in Victoria whether you live in Melbourne, Bendigo, Geelong or Echuca. And as soon as we can, we’ll be expanding our services to other products to make it easy for consumers to compare prices in a hassle-free online environment whenever it suits them.”
