Business can support the environment
The Victorian Government continues to support sustainable energy initiatives, with the announcement on 17th April of the winners of the 2008 Premier’s Sustainability Awards.
Ranging across five categories the winners include Williamstown High School Bayview Street Campus designed by Spowers Architects with sustainable best practice design principles at its core. The small business award went to Etiko Fair Trade who source all their products from Fairtrade or certified sweatshop free manufacturers. The Community Award went to the Great Ocean Road Committee for their work in enhancing the conservation, tourism and recreational aspects of the Great Ocean Road between Torquay and Lorne.
“If we want to make real changes to the way we use energy and commit to reducing our impact on the environment, we must embrace change within the business sector. Individuals and households can make a difference, but the real change will happen when industry and business, who consume 80% of Victoria’s energy, embrace sustainable and renewable energy initiatives.” said David Power of ShopAround.com.au.
